SHILLONG: The state government has recently sent the annual confidential reports of the eligible candidates for the post of DGP to the Union Public Service Commission for appointment.
An official source hoped on Wednesday that with the government sending additional information as required by the UPSC, the appointment will follow.
Earlier on July 30, a day before DGP SB Singh was to retire, the state government filed a petition before the Supreme Court to explore the possibility of appointing an acting DGP.
The government had urged the Apex Court to modify its July 3 order prohibiting the appointment of any acting DGP.
Following this, DG, Civil Defence and Home Guards R Awasthi took temporary charge as DGP.
The July 3 order had also said “the appointment of a full-fledged DGP will have to be effected by UPSC”.
After hearing the petition of the government on July 30, the Supreme Court had asked the UPSC to finalise the recommended names sent by the state government for the appointment of a permanent DGP within four weeks.
