SHILLONG: Senior BJP leader and Meghalaya in-charge Nalin Kohli said BJP will ensure that the NPP-led coalition government completes its full term.
“We are a participant in the government. We obviously expect that any government we are leading or in which we are participating must complete its tenure and must deliver to the people its promises and agenda of development,” he told reporters on Friday.
“We are a participant there and we don’t ride the government. We respect the coalition dharma,” he added.
Talking about coalition politics in the country, Kohli pointed out that BJP was the first to have the biggest and stable alliance under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“That is how coalition politics evolved in this country because in coalition dharma we recognise the role that each party has to play for success,” the senior leader said.
Pointing to the last Assembly elections, Kohli said the vote share of the party has gone up from approximately 1.5 per cent to almost 10 per cent.
“We learn from those mistakes and we also understand the reasons we won and we do that analysis (we find that) we won two seats, we narrowly lost two, we came second in seven seats, if I recall… BJP’s performance cannot be considered terrible. That people are entitled to choose their representatives is the strength of democracy,” he added.
