MAWKYRWAT: The UDP Ranikor circle is confident that it will end MM Danggo’s reign.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, circle president GG Bung Snaitang assured that the party will win the by-poll.
“In almost all the Khasi villages, our votes drastically increased from 60 percent to 90 percent. In the border areas too we had a good fight with NPP and we are confident that we will win this by-election,” he said.
To a query, Snaitang said a day before the poll, many leaders from other parties and their supporters pledged allegiance to UDP candidate Pius Marwein because they “understood that he has a good chance of winning”.
Asked about the report on Danggo’s son harassing voters at Phudkroh village, Snaitang said he acted out of frustration.
“It was a sign of frustration that NPP might lose the election that compelled them to do such a shameful act,” he said, adding that party members will visit UDP supporters from the Hajong community who were targeted on Saturday.
Danggo’s son reportedly entered houses of voters and conducted search.
“UDP will first consult its supporters before taking any action. After consultation, we will file an FIR,” Snaitang said.
