New Delhi: Attacking the government over the DNA bill, Congress on Sunday alleged that the Modi led government has a tendency to spy on people and wants to dig deep into their privacy and therefore wants to hastily bring in the bill and get it passed in the Parliament.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi while talking to reporters at AICC headquarters said that the government has introduced the bill in the Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon session, however, after observing the opposition’s stand, they took it back and presented the same in the Lok Sabha just two days before the session ended.
Being a matter concerning people’s privacy, it is necessary to have a broader discussion in the parliament regarding this, Singhvi said.
Pointing that the Data Protection Bill, which is proposed to keep people’s data safe and has a comprehensive arrangement for the data security, he questioned as to why there a need to introduce DNA bill prior to that.
The government should explain why it is being introduced before that, he questioned.
He further said that the whole country is questioning as to why is government hurrying up with this bill and thereby keeping in view the people’s sentiment the government should explain as to why they were in such a hurry.
Singhvi, stating that the motive of of bringing the bill is unclear, said that the government should respect people’s privacy and assure their data security first.
He alleged that the provisions made in the bill do not guarantee the protection of the private data of the people, so this should not be hurried up. (UNI)
