SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is yet to receive the two amendment bills on Khasi lineage which were returned by the state government.
When contacted on Sunday, KHADC CEM HS Shylla informed that he was yet to receive the bills.
Earlier on Friday, an official with the department of district councils said the bills were dispatched to KHADC.
It may be mentioned that the KHADC had written to the state government to recall the KHAD (Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (First and Second Amendment) Bills for making rectifications.Shylla said the new bill will be sent to the Governor, Tathagata Roy after discussing the same in the KHADC.
“Since the governor spent his childhood in the state, he will be able to understand the aspirations of the indigenous people,” he said.
According to Shylla, framing of the Bill was aimed at protecting the community from imminent threat of deadly diseases such as HIV-AIDS which are through marriage with bus and truck drivers from outside the state, migrant workers including drug addicts.
