MDA partners to fight future polls in state NPP downplays Cong strength

SHILLONG: NPP state president WR Kharlukhi has said that the upcoming polls will be fought mainly by the MDA coalition partners and not by the Congress.
“In Ranikor, Congress was nowhere as the main opponents were the coalition partners UDP and PDF”, Kharlukhi said on the eve of counting of votes for both South Tura and Ranikor.
The NPP leader said in the upcoming district council polls in Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, the main opponents will be the MDA constituents and not the Congress.
“In the future polls to the KHADC, the fight will be between all the coalition partners as they will be putting up candidates, while in Jaintia Hills, the strongest contestants will be NPP and UDP”, Kharlukhi said.
Predicting the downfall of the Congress due to lack of cohesion, the NPP state chief said the MDA will last its full term.
To a question, he said neither the party nor the MDA has taken any call on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
