SHILLONG: One year after its inauguration, the Science and Commerce College at Mawphlang is yet to see the light of day as re-tender notice for the project has not been issued.
The foundation stone for the college was laid by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on August, 2017 at a total cost of more than Rs 36 crore.
Although the construction work for the college has been allotted to many contractors, the DoNER ministry through the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) has cancelled the work order of the contractors as the work is to be taken as one package and not to be allotted to different contractors.
Stating that he will follow up on the project, Mawphlang MLA SK Sunn said, “There were attempts by the previous government to allot the work to different contractors which was disallowed by the Central government prompting the work orders to be cancelled and called for re-tender.”
The college will include college building, hostel, head of department, library and archive, principal’s quarter and others.
