SHILLONG: The State Planning Board on Wednesday discussed at length the growing menace of traffic congestion in Shillong city.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting,  Planning Board chairman, Lambor Malngiang said  that the  Board had asked the concerned departments   to take measures to control traffic in the city besides looking at the idea of constructing link roads in and around the town.

He said that there was a proposal to construct a road from Eastern Air Command in  7th mile towards the Shillong View Point even as he informed that the  department was just awaiting consent from the Forest and Environment department before kicking off the construction for the road

According to Malngiang, there is also a proposal  to construct link roads from Laitkor to Laitlyngot, Umlyngka to Cantonment area,  and Sawlad to Umpling.

When asked if mere discussions were taking place on easing traffic jam, he said that the Government was  serious about easing the traffic problem in the city for once and all  and hence several proposals for roads were in the pipeline.
