HYC reiterates demand for introduction of ILP in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has reiterated the need for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state to block 40 lakh people who were allegedly left out from the complete draft NRC in Assam.

Speaking to reporters, HYC president, Robert Kharjahrin said that they had written to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to incorporate the provison of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and residential permit in the Meghalaya Safety and Security Act.

He added that the state government has sent to the Law department to review on how to strengthen the Meghalaya Safety and Security Act and the rules.

In the letter to Sangma, the organisation also demanded updating the NRC in the state at the earliest.

Again, Kharjahrin demanded an official resolution of the House with regard to the opposition of the state government to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, as the Cabinet resolution is not enough.

Pointing to the illegal immigrants who work without labour license, he maintained that the implementation of labour legislation such as Labour license and work permit was very weak while checking of companies is not even done.

“There is failure in the implementation of work permit and labour license,” he said.

Referring to the state government’s Directorate of Infiltration to check foreigners, he said, “I don’t understand why the Directorate of Infiltration is stationed only in Byrnihat and not at the International borders.”
