SHILLONG: Inaction on the part of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to prepare the cost estimate has led to delay in construction of the permanent building of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Mawsynram for 9 years.
Aggrieved over the delay, social activist Banshai Marbaniang on Wednesday met R K Gupta, the deputy commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Meghalaya to discuss the matter.
Gupta informed Marbaniang that as per government norms, the estimate is prepared by the CPWD which has been delaying the matter for reasons best known to them.
Marbaniang reminded Gupta that students were facing problems especially during the monsoon, to which the latter assured that he would take up the issue with the concerned authorities.
Principal of the school, Mohit Kumar, however informed that the revised estimate has been passed by the CPWD and work was expected to start soon.
Marbaniang demanded that the CPWD should call the tender before the end of the year so that the selected contractor can start the work without delay.
