SHILLONG:  The Measles-Rubella Campaign will start in Meghalaya September 24.

A source from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, said that about 24 states have already started or carried out the Measles Rubella Campaign in the country   and  Meghalaya would kick start the campaign 25th state of the country, when more than 10 crore children are already safely vaccinated nationally

All children from 9 months onwards to 15 years will have to be covered and vaccinated in schools and at the community levels for out-of-school children. Already NE states like Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh & Manipur have successfully covered over 95% of children in their completed campaigns setting benchmarks of excellence,” the source added.

In Meghalaya about 13 lakh children have to be covered  and Government is seeking  the full support and active co-operation of heads of schools, teachers and parents, community leaders and public representatives as it is the state’s biggest ever vaccination campaign – in fact, the biggest campaign ever.

Schools are giving out consent forms to students, which is not required as it’s a universal campaign. The vaccines are WHO certified and completely safe.

Sources said that all children irrespective of the fact whether they have been previously immunized or not for Measles-Rubella will have to be covered  and no child should be missed.

All over the country, religious and political leaders, film stars, media -both print and electronic – have actively and strongly supported the campaign of Measles-Rubella vaccination.
