SHILLONG: UDP leader, Pius Marwein who defeated  the NPP heavy weight, MM Danggo in the Ranikor by poll has left it to the party to decide if he deserved a cabinet berth in the State Government or not.

Marwein, who was sworn in as the MLA by the Speaker of the Assembly, Donkupar Roy, here on Thursday said that the matter pertaining to a cabinet berth for him depended on the party.

The UDP leader, Bindo Lanong had recently said that it would be good for Ranikor if Marwein was given a berth. However, the NPP has already rejected the idea of giving a berth to the  newly-elected MLA.

Marwein also said that his priority for the constituency was  to develop road, health and education sector. He said, he would try his level best to bring development in the constituency which is far behind other constituencies in terms of development.

“My First step would be to have proper road in the area as without roads, it is difficult to develop the area,” he said while denying the allegations that the Congress helped him to win the elections

“ Congress had their own candidate. We did our work and they did their work,” the newly elected  MLA said

On being asked about allegations of money floating in the Ranikor by poll, he said that the election was not about money but people wanted a change in their heart and hence he won the election.

He also said that he did  not have any ill feelings for the his rival candidate, MM Danggo and if he meets him, he would ask him to work together for the benefit of the constituency.

Many cabinet ministers, senior leaders of the party, supporters, family and friends of Marwein were also present on the occasion.
