8 rhino poachers held, Rs 14.32 lakh recovered

GUWAHATI: The forest personnel of northern range of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and the anti-poaching Special Task Force (STF) have so far arrested eight poachers involved in poaching of a rhino at Shildubi in the northern range of the national park on May 29 last and recovered over Rs 14.32 lakh from them.

The forest personnel are looking for the gang of the poacher one, Mirzat Ali who has been absconding. A raid conducted at the residence of the poacher at Bishwanath led to recovery of Rs 70,000 in cash and papers related to a bank account used for transaction of proceeds from the illegal rhino horn trade.  The forest personnel also recovered an ATM card and a mobile phone used during the killing of the rhino on May 29 last.
