SHILLONG: A nutrition surveillance system to ensure that the beneficiaries in Mawphlang get the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) was launched on Friday at Mawngap by local MLA SK Sunn.
The project is the digitisation of ICDS Reporting System under the National Nutrition Mission.
Meghalaya was chosen among other two states in the country to implement the initiative.
Launching the system, Sunn said the system comprises a mobile application and analytic system to monitor the growth of every eligible child, pregnant women and adolescent girls.
“This is a user friendly tool for the field team and in addition, it also ensures data quality and accuracy through a GPS enabled system,” he said.
Sunn hoped that the digitisation of ICDS Reporting System under the National Nutrition Mission will address stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia and low birth weight.
It was as part of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) that a solution to combat malnutrition was initiated by the Centre with the mobile-based system that helps real time growth monitoring of every child.
The Centre’s proposal was regarding the mapping of various schemes addressing malnutrition.
The features include introducing a very robust convergence mechanism, ICT-based real time monitoring system, incentivising Anganwadi workers for using IT-based tools, eliminating registers, introducing measurement of height of children at Anganwadi centres, social audits and setting up nutrition resource centres, involving masses through Jan Andolan for their participation on nutrition through various activities among others.
