TURA: A formal function for handing over the copies of Integrated Draft Electoral Roll to political parties with reference to 01.01.2019 as the qualifying date, was held on Saturday at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura. Additional Deputy Commissioners’, West Garo Hills S B Marak and M T Sangma, Extra Assistant Commissioners of the district and representatives of political parties were present at the function.

It was informed during the meeting by the West Garo Hills District Election Officer that the period for filing claims and objections is from September 1 to October 31, disposal of claims and objections is before November 30, updating database and printing of Supplement before January 3, while the final publication of electoral roll is January 4, 2019.

The District Election Officer, further informed that with regard to this year’s theme of Accessible Election, there is a separate column in Form-6 with reference to 01.01.2019 as the qualifying date for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Electoral Database which provides space for giving information about disabilities and added that the Commission has directed that all such cases of PwD electors who have given such information in Form -6 should be flagged in the electoral database along with category of disability so that such electors can be provided necessary facilities at the polling station at the time of poll. It is made amply clear that such information of disability would not be reflected in electoral roll in any way.
