SHILLONG: A 45-year-old man was arrested in Tura after his wife lodged an FIR accusing him of raping their daughter, four years back.
The story was revealed during a recent family dispute in which the accused was chased away from his home only to be brought back by the wife, two days later.
The matter would not have come to the forefront if not for a post on social media pointing to such an incident taking place.
The SP, West Garo Hills, M.G.R Kumar was informed on the matter immediately after which, a team from the Tura Women’s PS reached the house of the victim and culprit father for questioning. “The girl and her grandmother refused to talk on the matter and the husband and wife were away from the house. We were told they went to Mahendraganj. They however surrendered themselves last evening and have been taken into custody. We are questioning them on the matter,” said Kumar.
The mother and the accused father surrendered after which a case was filed by the mother of sexual assault on Monday, leading to the accused’s arrest.
“A complaint has been filed by the mother of the victim and the accused has been forward on charges of sexual assault. He is currently in judicial custody,” said the SP.
According to the FIR, the victim’s mother stated in her complaint that her husband sexually assaulted their daughter, who is a minor, when they were staying in a rented house in the year 2014.
