NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma resigned from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and the same was accepted by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Sangma was elected to the Assembly in the recently concluded by-poll in South Tura. He went to meet the speaker himself and tendered his resignation as MP. The leader, who is heading the six-party coalition government, will take oath as a member of the Assembly on Wednesday.
The NPP national president, who was sworn as the 12th Chief Minister of Meghalaya on March 6, was a non-elected member of the 60-member Assembly. He had six months to get elected to the Assembly.
No by-poll is slated for the Tura Lok Sabha seat that will be filled up after 2019 election.
