TURA: The 57th Teacher’s Day was celebrated here in Tura at District Auditorium where West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh attended as the Chief Guest in the presence of District School Education Officer, B G Momin, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Tura G D Sangma and Officials of Education department.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Ram Singh said that teaching is a noble profession which shapes the personality of the students and sets the future of the next generation. Lauding the teachers for rendering their selfless service with dedication, he said that as part of the curriculum teachers should ensure and encourage the students to communicate in English during school hours. Considering the students coming from village background except Tura urban areas, he said that most parents are illiterate and hence teachers have greater responsibility to teach and mould these students.
In Ampati of South West Garo Hills, the day was celebrated in a befitting manner in all the educational institutions across the district.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramkumar S who was the Chief Guest on the occasion highlighted the role and values of teachers and the reasons that make Teachers Day so special from other occasions. Stating that the role of the teachers is not only confined to schools, he said that teachers play a very crucial role in shaping the society. He also expressed his view that a society cannot flourish without good education system and good teachers, adding, “if a teacher can sow a good seed in the minds of the children, he/she gives them the ambition to which they can hold on”. He urged upon the teachers to play a role model in the society as they are always being watched and also to appreciate their own values.
Resubelpara in North Garo Hills district also observed the occasion at the Dekachang Community Hall.
District Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu who was the Chief Guest exhorted the teachers to keep a profile of every individual student so as to enable them to assess the strength and weakness of each student thereby channelizing their efforts in shaping the lives of students towards a bright perspective. He further pressed upon the teachers not to treat all students as the same but treat each student differently since the strength and weakness of every child differs.
In Baghmara of South Garo Hills the occasion was celebrated at the Don Bosco Secondary School of the town in which deputy commissioner, H B Marak was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Marak said that the teaching profession was a very influential one which also builds character and urged one and all to respect those in the profession. He said that schools were temples of learning and must be treated as places of worship.
In all the districts, school teachers were conferred awards in appreciation for their outstanding contribution to the cause of education on the occasion.
The District Awardees of West Garo Hills district are Alitha Marrie K Marak, Assistant teacher of Christian Girls Higher Secondary School Tura, Shri Pollendro Sangma, Assistant Teacher, Sacred Heart Secondary School, Dalu and Smti Prenita R Marak, Assistant Teacher, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Araimile Tura.
Three teachers from Ampati were the recipients of the award who included Nozmul Arefin of Ampati Government Higher Secondary School, Bertha Merry A. Sangma of Boldamgre Govt. UP School and Kollingsroy Ch. Marak of Golmangre Govt. LP School, while Mukter Hussain Sheikh of Bainapara Deficit UP School and Paulina R. Marak of Rangsakona Deficit Secondary School were felicitated as the Best Scout Master and Best Guide Teacher, respectively.
The recipients of the District Awards in Resubelpara were Tracy N Sangma, Assistant Teacher Resubelpara Govt. H.S.School, Hatem Ali Diwan, Asst. Teacher Resubelpara Govt. U.P School and Lingbart Shira, Asst. Teacher Tengabari Govt. L.P. School.
Gibimol Mathew, Assistant Science Teacher, Don Bosco Secondary School, Senitha R Marak Assistant Teacher, Sibbari Secondary School (U.P Section), Indrocent N Marak, Headmaster, Dabram LP School were the awardees from baghmara.
