SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Thursday the new government works “differently” and focuses on proper implementation of all its schemes.
Listing the achievements of his government in reaction to the Congress’s “old wine in a new bottle” comment, Conrad told media persons many flagship programmes of the state government were not properly implemented previously.
“Governance is a continuous process and it is important for us to properly implement the schemes,” he said.
“We don’t do different things but we do things differently and we want to make things better,” he added.
The new coalition government is focusing on efficient delivery to the grassroots level and has also started many new programmes.
Congress leader Zenith Sangma had alleged that MDA “is following up several schemes of the previous government be it basin development or any other flagship programme of the previous regime”.
Conrad had earlier said his government would review schemes started by the last government and continue those with widespread benefits.
“It has been six months and we already have a directorate for the food processing, which never happened in the past. We also started missions for turmeric, apiculture and jackfruit which are innovative programmes and there are many things we have done,” the chief minister said on Thursday.
Further countering the rival leader’s remark, the chief minister said the previous government spent three years on the education policy, “which itself speaks about the kind of interest it had”.
“When we came (to power), we put things on track and streamlined it. The committee met more than seven eight times and we are going to complete it at the earliest,” Sangma said.
