NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) Mawshynrut Circle on Thursday demanded that the state Government should speed up the implementation of entry & exit points at Athiabari in West Khasi Hills in order to prevent the infiltration of outsiders in the state.
President KSU Mawshynrut Circle, Armstrong Sohshang, said that the new mechanism to check the menace of influx has totally failed as outsiders are able to move freely in and out due to non-availability of entry and exit points.
He added that recently they apprehended more than hundred outsiders at Athiabari who illegally entered the state.
The KSU president Mawshynrut circle added that the state government is unable to setup the entry & exit points till date even after several villages in the area including Athiabari, Aradonga, Umsaitwait  and other villages have agreed to set them up at a meeting which was held on January 24 and February 1 last year.
Sohshang also said that the area which was supposed to be used to set up the entry and exit point is under the jurisdiction of KHADC in an area of 28728.88 sq meters.
Armstrong further stated that the executive committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has approved to allocate the area to the government for setting up the entry and exit points.
