Sonowal welcomes golden girl Hima Das home

GUWAHATI: It was a grand welcome home at Guwahati Airport here on Friday for sprinter Hima Das who won three medals including one Gold and two Silvers for India in Asian Games 2018.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, health and PWD minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma, state BJP president Ranjeet Dass along with a large number of officials and fans were waiting to accord Hima a very warm welcome after her headlined exploits in the continental sports extravaganza.

Setting her feet on the home soil the golden girl of Indian athletics, Hima who hails from Kandhulimari in Dhing of Nagaon district, attributed her success to the unrelenting blessings of the people of Assam and pledged to try her best always to succeed in any event in coming days and years.

Assam government on Friday felicitated the rising star in the athletics world in a grand function held in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

Hima also spent some emotional moments on the track of India Gandhi National Games Athletic stadium at Sarusajai here. It was on this track, Hima had practiced hard to fulfill her dreams. Getting emotional Hima said, “Without the track in this stadium, my dreams would have remained dreams only.”
