MLCU rally on World Suicide Prevention Day
SHILLONG: The Department of Psychology at Martin Luther Christian University organised several awareness programmes on Monday on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day that was observed across the country on the theme ‘Working Together to Prevent Suicide’. Dr Maribon Viray, Head of the Department, while speaking about the day said, “Suicide is a cry of help! It can be prevented. We just need to listen.” A group of students, faculty members and well-wishers ended the day by assembling at Khyndailad and lit candles.

Youth and Gospel event celebrated in city
SHILLONG: The Young Catholic Students (YCS/YSM) organisation has organised its 2nd ‘YouGo’ competition with the theme ‘Youth and Gospel’ at Sacred Heart Theological College in Mawlai on Sunday. The main objective of the event was to inculcate the values of the gospels and to spread awareness of the importance of deepening their faith.The day began with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Jude Sdb. The chief guest, Edelbert Nongrum, exhorted the students to become a hope to the hopeless and build trust and friendship to find global solutions to the problems of the society. The students from eleven schools had showcased their creativity in various on-stage events like drama, singing, dancing and music. St. Francis School, Smit, bagged first prize, the second place won by Sacred Heart Girls and the Holy Child Higher Secondary School seized the third place.

World Literacy Day observed in Resubelpara 
Resubelpara: Highlighting the importance of the ability to read and write, World Literacy Day was observed in Resubelpara at Mendipathar Multi Purpose Cooperative Hall on Monday. The theme of the programme was ‘Literacy and skills development’ aims to widen the need of the hour which is to be literate thereby enabling oneself to acquire skill and knowledge resulting in the development of the individual and the Nation in general. The programme which was organised by the District Mission Coordinator, District Unit SSA, North Garo Hills was attended by Deputy Commissioner, S.C.Sadhu as chief guest, wherein he urged upon all stakeholders to strive towards achieving 100 per cent literacy in the district  in line with the Central Government’s target of attaining 100 per cent literacy by the year 2022. Appealing all BMCs and teachers to ensure skill development is made as part of the school curriculum with career guidance in focus so as to help students have sufficient skills and ideas in choosing career pertaining to their aptitude.

Mising freshers’ meet
SHILLONG: The Mising Students Union Shillong (MSUS) organised its freshers’ meet cum Kangkin Kebang at NEHU on September 9. Raju Medok Executive Councilor, Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), general secretary Mising Bane Kebang (Apex Council) of Mising and Okom Yosung, general secretary of Adi Mising Bane Kebang attended the occasion. Singer Poba Gaurav performed Mising traditional songs and students performed Gumrag dance at the programme.
