‘Use of social media should be dealt judiciously’
Shillong: With the rise in cyber crime, focus on the pros and cons of the internet and the use of social media should be dealt judiciously while using it said Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, M. Kharkongor. She was speaking at a one-day awareness programme on social networking and cyber crime organised by the State Child Protection Society in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya on Tuesday at U Soso Tham Auditorium. She also added that while we cannot curb access to the net, there is a need to increase awareness on the evils that lurk in the cyber world. She also stressed on the need to strengthen laws to protect child safety. R. Muthu, IPS, Special Superintendent of Police (CID) and S Rynga, Joint Director of Social Welfare Department were also present. Resource persons were also drawn from the cyber crime wing (CID) Meghalaya police.
RKM celebrates birth anniversary of Vivekananda
Shillong: Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sohra celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Tuesday. The Governor Tathagatha Roy while speaking on the occasion said, “We should be virtuous irrespective of what religion we belong”. He was also echoing the sentiments expressed in a beautiful song sung by the children of the LP section. Besides giving the keynote address, he also gave away prizes to all the first prize winners of various competitions conducted by R K Mission Ashrama, Sohra on Monday and Tuesday. The winners in the English and the Khasi category of the competitions at the Secondary level respectively were Aitikordorlin Tymmenniang, RKM Sec School, Sohbar and Anniefica Thabah, RKM HS, Sohra. While the winners in the English and the Khasi category at the Upper Primary Level respectively were Dapbiangkupar Lyndem, RKM HS, Sohra and Kongka Dkhar, RKM Sec School, Sohbar. And the winners at the Lower Primary Level respectively were Lahunlang Kharkongor, RKM HS, Sohra and Phernaki Diengdoh, RKM HS, Sohra.
Workshop on arthroscopy and sports injuries to be held
Shillong: A workshop on Arthroscopy and Sports injuries organised by Department of Orthopedics, NEIGRIHMS in collaboration with North East Regional Orthopedic Surgeons Association and Arthroscopy Society of North East is organising a regional CME cum workshop on Arthroscopy and Sports injuries on September 26. Live Arthroscopic reconstruction of torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and a Bankert’s repair for recurrent dislocation of shoulder will be performed for the benefit of Orthopaedicians during the workshop. It will also help orthopedic surgeons to treat patients of various injuries, particularly sports injuries. The live surgery workshop is to focus on emerging new “all inside techniques of PCL reconstruction of the knee and Bankart’s repair of the shoulder” with knotless techniques. Prominent Orthopaedicians, Prof. Davinder Singh from Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, Prof. R. K. Baruah, Dr. Iran Bharali will be the resource persons in the workshop.
Science exhibition organised
Shillong: Army Public School ,Umroi Miltary Station organised their first inter-school science exhibition on Monday. Altogether six schools participated in the competition .The students presented working models and showcased their innovative ideas. The first prize was awarded to Harshvardhan Tripathi of class VIII from Army Public School, Umroi Mil Stn, while the first-runner up was won by by Anubhav Mohapatra and Nirvana Laishram of class VI, Christ Senior Secondary School,Umiam and the second runner-up was won by Shrikant Sinha of class VII and Banteilang Kharmalki of class VII from MeECL Secondary School,Umiam.
