TURA: The two-day dawn-to-dusk ‘non-cooperation’ call given by student and social organizations in South Garo Hills in protest against lack of repair of the roads, concluded peacefully on Wednesday evening.

The protest by several organisations hit normal life substantially with education institutions, shops and business houses remaining closed and people staying indoors as public transport went off the road.

The few government offices that opened up for work had to make do with a skeleton staff and total absence of visitors.

The protest shutdown severely impacted all three regions of South Garo Hills-Nangalbibra coal belt, Baghmara-Rongara and Chokpot.

The absence of transport has resulted in a drastic drop in essential commodities, particularly rice, sugar and vegetables.
