Overtake bid kills pillion rider

SHILLONG: A 26-year-old pillion rider died on Tuesday when the rider tried to overtake a military truck near Step By Step School at Barik.
Tutun Dhar was travelling with his friend, Shubam Share (19), on a scooter and they were coming from Malki on Tuesday afternoon. Share tried to overtake the truck and hit a car coming from the opposite direction, DSP (Traffic) Walsal Momin said The rider lost control and dashed against the army truck from the right side. The impact threw Tutun off the scooter and he came under the wheels of the truck.
Momin said the truck driver was arrested and a case was registered.
“The body was sent for postmortem, which will be conducted tomorrow (Wednesday) at Shillong Civil Hospital,” he added. Tutun was a resident of Mawprem.
