SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has said it is committed to strengthening the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) and called upon coalition partners to work as a united family.
Pointing to the coalition era, HSPDP East Khasi Hills unit president Martle N Mukhim on Thursday drew attention to a proposed pre-poll alliance with the UDP for the 2019 district council elections.
Mukhim expressed hope that the UDP and other regional parties in the state would work together in the upcoming council elections.
HSPDP had a pre-poll alliance with UDP in the 2018 Assembly elections and also formed the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA).
It had recently called for a stronger regional alliance with PN Syiem-led PDF on board.
Mukhim said an executive committee meeting held on Thursday was to discuss preparations for the general council meeting of East Khasi Hills unit to be held on October 4.
Meanwhile, HSPDP chief organiser and minister Samlin Malngiang said the general council meeting is aimed at reorganising and strengthening the party as it gears up for the race to the district council.
