TURA: A delegation from Dambo-Rongjeng region of East Garo Hills called on Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma in Shillong on Friday to remind the government about their demand for upgradation from a “Administrative Unit” to a full-fledged Civil Sub-Division.

“We as part of the Civil Sub-Division Demand Committee for Rongjeng submitted five reminders to the then state government headed by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma. But even after continuous submission of our reminder memorandum, there was no positive response from the MUA-II Congress-led government till the expiry of its term,” stated the delegation in its latest memorandum.

Those demanding a civil sub-division maintain that there is under-development in Rongjeng and feel its upgradation will accelerate the pace of progress in the region.

However, given the acute financial position prevailing in the state and the mushrooming of similar demands for sub-divisions and districts coming from different quarters, the state government is having its hands full on the issue.
