SHILLONG: Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Center observed 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Address at the World Parliament of religious on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP, Wansuk Syiem highlighted notions of tolerance, acceptance of individual’s faith and beliefs, to improve suffering of the people through spirituality.
Regarding fanaticism, bigotry which Swami Vivekananda spoke strongly against, she said the nation today still faced such issues coupled with divisive politics, sexism, casteism, regionalism.
“Teachings of Swami Vivekananda must come to our aid,” she said adding that his teachings stresses on universal brotherhood.
“Each of us belonging to humanity, nation, region and religion. All these identities go in harmony,” Syiem said.
Cultural performances from students enthralled the audience on the occasion.
