GUWAHATI: The Second National Judicial Pay Commission will be submitting it final report on payscale revision of judicial officers of lower courts within the next four months.
This was disclosed before the media here on Saturday by Justice P. V Reddy, Chairman of the National Judicial Pay Commission.
“We have already presented the interim report on pay allowances and pension of judicial officers to the Supreme Court. The commission has been consulting various stakeholders and is committed to recommend uniform pay scale for judicial officers across the country. The consultations will be over by November and the final report is likely to be presented after assessment in the next four months,” Justice Reddy said.
The judicial pay commission was constituted by an order of the Supreme Court in May 2017 and ratified by the Union government in November the same year. This is the second commission to be constituted in 20 years after the first judicial pay commission was set up in 1998. In between, an ad-hoc commission was constituted in 2010-11.
Earlier, the first regional conference was held here by the commission on Saturday. Judicial officers of Lower Judiciary of North East took part in the conference and gave their suggestions to the commission.
The conference touched upon topics such as pay scale, emoluments, service conditions, retirement benefits, post retirement jobs in judiciary, infrastructure and environment of the Lower Court and judicial working conditions.
“We have started with Guwahati to facilitate participation of all the Northeast states. Similar conferences will be held in south, west and central India to take feedback on the same,” Justice R. Basant, member of the commission and former Judge of Kerala High Court. said.
“Once the final report on pay and allowances is submitted, the commission will thereafter prepare a report following a similar exercise on service conditions and infrastructure,” he said.
The commission has been given 18 months to complete the pay revision exercise.
