SHILLONG: Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Center observed the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address at the World Parliament of religious on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP, Wansuk Syiem spoke about notions of tolerance, acceptance of individual’s faith and beliefs, to improve suffering of the people through spirituality.
Apart from fanaticism, bigotry which Swami Vivekananda spoke strongly about, she said the nation today still face such issues coupled with divisive politics, sexism, casteism and regionalism.
“Teachings of Swami Vivekananda must come to our aid,” she said adding that his teachings stresses on universal brotherhood.
“Each of us belongs to humanity, nation, region and religion. All these identities go in harmony,” Syiem said.
Cultural performances from students enthralled the audience on the occasion.
