SHILLONG: Though the former Governor Ganga Prasad had approved the appointment of the chairman of Meghalaya Lokayukta, the official ‘warrant of appointment’ is yet to be effected by the governor.
An official source said only after the official warrant of appointment by the governor that the Lokayukta chairman can take oath and assume office.
The selection committee headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had on July 24 given nod to the appointment of Pranoy Kumar Musahary, retired judge of the Gauhati High Court, as the chairman of the Meghalaya Lokayukta.
Sources said the state government wants Lokayukta to be functional with the lone chairman after he assumes office though the Act has provision to appoint four members.
Earlier, the decision to appoint the chairman of Meghalaya Lokayukta was communicated to the Supreme Court since the court wanted all the states to complete the process of the appointment at the earliest.
