GUWAHATI: Prompt action by Railway Protection Force (RPF) on a tip-off led to arrested of a hardened criminal who murdered a Nagaland Police officer.
An official source informed that on Monday at around 5 P.M, Railway Protection Force (RPF) received information from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dimapur that there was a murder of an Inspector rank officer of Nagaland Police and the suspect was moving in train 15928 towards Guwahati. Suspect’s presence in train was confirmed by continuously monitoring his mobile location as well as the train position.
On receiving the information, Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF/ Lumding in co-ordination with Sr. Divisional Operating Officer / Lumding arranged to regulate the above train for about 15 minutes in the yard before reaching Guwahati station with the approval of the Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding Division. Since, once train reaches Guwahati station, it will become tougher to corner the accused due to presence of huge crowd. Accordingly, a team under Inspector,RPF, New Guwahati was moved to the yard and intense checking of the train from both sides was done with having observers on both sides at 6 P.M.
On seeing this, the suspect jumped out of train and moved into the adjacent Colony. The observers and other staff noticed him and chased him. Having no way to go, the suspect moved into a building. Immediately, the building was cordoned from all sides. Since it was a civil area, Local Police were called and after sometime, seeing no way to escape from the spot the suspect came down from the building and he was taken into custody. Nagaland Police were accordingly intimated for handing over of the accused.
