GUWAHATI: The suspected Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), Saidul Alam who was picked by Assam Police on Saturday for interrogation from Lanka in Nagaon district, was arrested on Monday after his close link to HuM could be established.
Saidul is, in fact, the brother of HuM operative Kamar-uz-Zaman, who hails from Nagaon district in Assam and was arrested by UP Police from Kanpur on Thursday last.
Assam Police have so far arrested three suspected Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) operatives in the state since Friday following the arrest of HuM operative Kamar-uz-Zama in Kanpur. A Special Investigation Team of Assam Police headed by Hojai Superintendent Police, Ankur Jain, is working overtime to trace the HuM network in the state.
Two other HuM arrested HuM operatives were: Shahnawaz Alam and Omar Farooq. Shahnawaz was arrested on Friday from Jamukamukh area in Assam while Omar Farooq was arrested from Byrnihat area in Meghalaya where he was taking refuge in guise of a businessman.
Assam police on Saturday arrested one more suspected operative of Hizb-ul-Mukjahideen, Omar Farooq from Byrnihat area on Assam-Meghalaya boundary. Omar Farooq hails from Soalbari area of Hojai and was suspected to be maintaining close relation with Kamar-uz-Zaman, Police said HuM had transferred money from Kashmir to Omar Farooq’s account for the purpose strengthening HuM network in the state.
It has become apparent that the banned Hizb-ul-Mujahineed has been able to create a sleeper network in Assam especially in the Central Assam’s Muslim’s dominated areas under the nose of Assam police who have been jerked to action following arrest of Kamar-uz-Zaman, who hails from Assam, by Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of UP Police.
A team from UP Police is coordination with Assam police is investigating into leads by Kamar-Uz-Zaman especially about money being paid through him in the bank accounts of various persons in Assam for strengthening Hizb-ul-Mujahideen network in Assam.
