Poets converge at Sahitya Akademi Poetry Festival

TURA: The All India Poetry Festival organised by the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Tura recently saw the convergence of renowned and eminent poets from all over India.

The event showcased the rich cultural mosaic and a kaleidoscopic view of the North East and the country at the broader framework. Bhasha Literature was celebrated at its full glory by participating poets who recited poems in a variety of Indian languages, thereby displaying a colourful spectrum of emotions, perspectives, points of view, and perceptions.

During the inaugural session, Prof Fameline Marak from the Department of Garo, spoke about the treasures, the poetic pieces and verses, that the region boasts of and the need to preserve these linguistic artifacts for posterity, while Prof Sujata Gurudev from the Department of English highlighted the significance of poems as vehicles of human values, and how by resorting to the pen a poet can change, refashion and remap the world.

The four sessions of the event were chaired by Prof Sujata Gurudev, Karabi Deka Hazarika, Prof Caroline Marak and Anitha Thampi respectively. Famous poets like Andal Priyadarshini (Tamil), Zoramdinthara ( Mizo), Kishorsinh Solanki (Gujrati), Dhiman Barman (Assamese), Chittaranjan Misra (Odia), Bal Krishna Tharni (Nepali), Aritra Sanyal (Bengali), Sandeep Jaiswal (Punjabi), Crystal Cornelius Marak (Garo) were among those who participated in the event.
