Swachhta Hi Seva Run to be held at Ampati on Sept 22

TURA: As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva and Swachhgrahion Ke Swachhgrahi – Ek se Anek programmes in the district of South West Garo Hills, “Swachhta Hi Seva Run” – a run for Clean and Green South West Garo Hills is being organized by the District Swachh Bharat Mission (G) in collaboration with the District Sports Office and Tura Runners’ Club at Ampati on September 22, next at 7 am.

The event is being conducted in two categories, namely, a half marathon from Ampati Students’ Field to Zikzak C&RD block and back and Special Run for Green Ampati up to Zikzak block. Registration for the same can be done at the Disrict Sports office at Ampati and at Black Orange, Ringrey, Tura.

Several other programmes and events are being conducted across the district by the SBM(G) team starting from this week up to October 2, 2018 to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti. These include street plays on cleanliness, hygiene, toilet construction and waste management and mass cleaning drive in all the market places, among others.

It may be mentioned that the aim of Swachh Bharat Mission is to achieve a clean and open defecation free India by October 2, 2019. The objectives are generating demand for toilets leading to their construction and sustained use by all household members, promoting better hygiene behaviour among the population and improving cleanliness by initiating solid and liquid waste management projects.
