GUWAHATI: Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures and Shahnaab Alam’s Easterly Entertainment will make their debut in Assamese cinema when their film, Bhoga Khirikee (Broken Window), will have its national premier at the second edition of Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) here on October 25 this year. The film is directed by acclaimed director Jahnu Barua. Announcing this chairman of Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio here Pabitra Margherita said, “It is indeed a privilege that Barua’s film will have its national premier at the GIFF. The film will be commercially released throughout India the next day.” Addressing the media, Margherita pointed out that Bhoga Khirikee was the first association of Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures and Shahnaab Alam’s Easterly Entertainment with Assamese cinema. Director of the film, Jahnu Barua, also speaking at the press meet, said ‘Bhoga Khirikee’ was a tale from Assam and is a ‘special story, close to his heart’. On the critical phase the Assamese film industry is facing problem due to low returns, he pointed that the market for Assam’s films was ‘very, very small, compared to Punjab or West Bengal’. “In spite of this reality, film-makers here are making their films with passion. Artistes are struggling, but they are working hard to revive the industry,” he said, adding, “But we should all try to make it commercially viable.” The seven-day long 2nd GIFF has been organised by government-run Jyoti Chitraban and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Film and Television Institute, with the active support of Assam government.
