SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) along with officials of the KHADC conducted a surprise checking of labour licence at the construction site of the office quarter of Geological Survey of India at Rynjah.
51 labourers working at the site were found to be in possession of EPIC while 34 others did not have identity proof on them. Surprisingly, only five of the labourers were in possession of labour licence, which they claimed to have obtained after shelling out Rs 1500 instead of the usual fee of Rs 700.The KHADC officials stopped the construction work and asked the labourers to obtain proper documents as per the rules and regulations of the District Council. It is learnt that the contractor is Rocky Dhar, brother of Cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Following the inspection, the KHNAM criticised the KHADC for issuing rampant licences to migrant labourers in the state depriving the local youth from getting employment.
