GUWAHATI: As per instructions issued by Railway Board, N F Railway has revised the charges of porters (Sahayaks) in railway stations with effect from September 15. Accordingly, the new rate for carryinf of luggage by licensed Sahayaks upto 40 Kgs per head will be Rs. 80/-. Rate for use of wheel chair / stretcher will be Rs. 100/- and rate for carriage of luggage by trolley will be Rs. 150/-.
The porter charges were last revised in 2012. It may be mentioned that the economic and living conditions of the Sahayaks were a matter for concern and new rate is expected to be beneficial for the Sahayaks.
Railway has also been constructing sheds for Sahayaks around the station complex of big stations so that they can take adequate rest after performing work. The realistic revision of the porter charge is expected to curb overcharging by a section of the Sahayaks. Passengers too have been requested to pay only as per the approved rates and to avail the service of the licensed Sahayaks only.
