Poacher arrested in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Based on a specific input, on poaching of animals inside the prohibited Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary, a person identified as Hending Rani from Nongkynrih village in Ri Bhoi district was arrested by the Wildlife Department on from Umladoh village under the Beat Forest Officer, Lailad Beat.

As per sources from the Beat Forest Officer of Lailad Beat, information was received on September 13 about a person carrying raw Sambar meat was seen near Umladoh village which is in close proximity to Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary. The staff of the Lailad Beat immediately rushed to the village and that few people were rounded up for interrogation which led to the arrest of Hending Rani, a hardcore poacher who has been involved in several crimes in the past.

From his possession, one Single Barrel Muzzle Loading (SBML) gun, 4 kg of raw Sambar meat was seized by the Wildlife Department and was booked under Section 9, 27, 29, 31, 44(a), (iii)R/W Definitions (16) (a), (20), 32,35 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
