Cabinet gives nod to Meghalaya Education Policy

SHILLONG: A long pending wish of the people of the state was finally fulfilled after State cabinet on Friday gave its nod to the Meghalaya State Education Policy 2018 that had long been sought for.

Informing this after the Cabinet meeting, State Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that suggestions were made by altogether 230 individuals, associations and teachers for the state education policy and all the suggestions were scrutinized.
He also said that a 24-member task force was constituted and the team met on many occasions

According to Rymbui, the policy took shape after a lot of deliberation and exhaustive work that included the suggestions of stakeholders even as he added the Policy, tries to address the main issues and concerns facing the State today and attempts to provide policy options for the State Government based on best practices and research driven interventions.

He said that it also places the learner as the focaI point for the education system envisioned for Meghalaya.

The Final Education Policy covers the broad areas like vision, overall goal, and goals for the development of ECCE, Elementary, Secondary / Higher Secondary, Higher and Teacher Education.

These are further detailed under Early Childhood Care and Education, Elementary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schooling, Open schooling, Governance and management of school institutions, Science and Mathematics education, Assessment and Examination process, Teacher recruitment, the DERT, Pre-Service teacher education, teacher education institutions, in-service teacher education, teacher management information system, Meghalaya School Improvement Programme (Continuous Professional Institutional Development), state higher education council, college education, university education, regulation and determination of fees, SkiIls development, Technical education, :o-curricular activities and information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education.
