SHILLONG: Allegation of cash transaction has shocked the BJP state executive committee members some of whom are trying to downplay it.
The allegation was levelled by a BJP candidate of the February 27 Assembly polls at a recent meeting of the committee in the city to analyse the results of the February election.
The BJP candidate accused certain party leaders of taking a few lakhs of rupees from him.
Whistleblowers in the party said the matter was raised by the BJP candidate, who unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls, during the recent meeting in the city. The outburst of the candidate was during the state executive meeting of the BJP held on September 15 at the party office. At least 50 members were present on the occasion.
The meeting was chaired by the central BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli. Kohli and others were on the dais when the candidate revealed this.
During the second half of the executive committee meeting, the candidate repeated twice that a few persons sitting on the dais took certain amount of money from him and the money was paid in Pinewood Hotel.
Besides Kohli, those who were on the dais during the meeting included BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek, state party president Shibun Lyngdoh, general secretary Banshailang Khongwir, other BJP functionaries David Kharsati, Earnest Mawrie and Sumita Banerjee.
It was learnt that the central leaders are taking steps to probe the allegation levelled by the member.
A source said Kohli apprised central BJP leader Ram Madhav of the matter.
