Mawroh viewpoint in Ri Bhoi beautified

NONGPOH: The Mawroh viewpoint, the only tourist destination located within the jurisdiction of Nongpoh and the District Headquarter of Ri Bhoi is on the way for further beatification to lure more tourists and also to promote local economy by way of tourism.
Aimed at promoting tourism, the Basin Development Unit (BDU) in collaboration with Nongpoh Town Committee and Officer’s Club of the district on Wednesday took the first step by planting thousands of saplings including cherry blossom tree which is a part of further beautification at Mawroh viewpoint.
The Nodal Officer of BDU, Ri Bhoi, D. Kharshiing was the chief guest. Others present were District Forest Officer J.D Dkhar, Development Officer of Soil and Water Conservation, G. Lyngwa and local headman, O. Syngkli, secretary of Nongpoh Town Committee, Rayonald Kharkamni and residents of Mawroh village. The meeting was presided over by the chairman of Nongpoh Town Committee, C.B Syiem.
Addressing the function, D. Kharshiing lauded the initiative of the village to convert the viewpoint as one of the tourist destinations in the District.
“Planting of trees in this viewpoint will not only enable us for further beautification of the tourist destination and also it will help us to protect our environment as global warming is the other of the day that needs to be controlled,” she said.
