SHILLONG: A group of swimmers from the city demanded the State Government to institute an inquiry and take action into the alleged ‘irregularities’ in the sports department with regards to a cafeteria set up inside the premises of the Crinoline Swimming Pool.
One of the local swimmers, Shemphang Lyngdoh on Thursday while talking to media persons, said that Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh must constitute an inquiry into the matter. According to him, the group had earlier submitted a complaint on March this year, however, no action has been taken till date by the authorities.
Lyngdoh said the RTI filed by them has revealed that an alleged “benami transaction” has taken place with regards to a cafeteria set up on the premises of Crinoline Swimming Pool. “It was found that the Meghalaya Aquatic Swimmers’ Association (MASA) had leased out the contract for running the cafeteria to the Polo Towers Limited on April 1, this year,” he informed.
As per the reply to the RTI query , the State Sports Council (SSC) had allotted the contract to the MASA on September 25, last year on depositing of Rs 25,000 annually and Rs 2,000 as monthly rent. “Interestingly, the MASA is earning Rs 12,000 as monthly rent from the Polo Towers Ltd which is running the cafeteria,” he said while demanding immediate shut down of the cafete
