NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills district administration has prohibited loaded heavy vehicles from plying on the road connecting Riangsih with Nongiri after it received complaints that the stretch was dilapidated due to dumpers and trucks carrying stones.
District Magistrate PD Sangma said in a statement on Friday that villagers are not being able to use the broken road during medical emergencies or take farm produce to markets.
Sangma declared Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting loaded trucks and dumpers on the road. “If anyone violates this order, he/she shall be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860,” the statement said. In view of the urgency of the matter, the order is passed ex-parte. However, anyone aggrieved by this order may approach the competent authority.
