Shillong: Along with the rest of the world, Martin Luther Christian University observed the International Day of Peace at the campus on Friday.
Principal of John Roberts Theological Seminary, Mawklot, Rev BJ Syiemlieh who was the speaker, stressed on the importance of loving not only one another but to respect other cultures that are different from ours.
He added that history has shown that peace is the only way that a nation can grow and develop. He also quoted the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s approach towards hate that his people received from the white supremacists in his own country and how he used the Bible teachings of love and peace to fight for the civil rights of the African-American people.
He concluded by stating that conflicts and inability to co-exist will affect not only us but future generations too.
The event was organised by the Department of Christian Studies and Peace Initiatives in the presence of Dr. GC Kharkongor, the Chancellor of the university, Dr MB Marwein, Registrar, and students, faculty from other departments of the University.
