13 pro-ILP groups’ sit-in on October 4

SHILLONG: Thirteen pro-ILP organisations will hold a sit-in demonstration on October 4 in Shillong and Tura to pressure the state government to expedite setting up of entry and exit points.
FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani said the groups had a meeting on Friday at the office of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to discuss the pending work of setting up entry-exit point. He said, “Even if permission to hold the sit-in demonstration is not granted, we will still go ahead.”
Questioning the functioning of the District Task Force, which is designed to check illegal immigrants, he argued that till date the state government has not been able to implement entry-exit point.
Rani said the District Task Force has not been constituted in some districts. “We have been waiting for the implementation of entry/exit point. The KSU has also sent a letter to the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma) to discuss the status of entry/exit point. We haven’t received any confirmation till date.”
