SHILLONG: The PHE minister Samlin Malniang on Monday informed the State Assembly that the implementation of Greater Shillong Water Supply Project (Phase III) was in progress and up-to-date physical progress was 72 per cent.
In a written reply to question by Mawphlang MLA, S K Sunn, the minister said that the components of the project awarded to M/s Tantia Construction Ltd., Kolkata was placed in the House.
Sunn asked the minister on what was the objective of the project, to which Malniang said the objective of the PHE department is “to give water to the people.”
Sunn again he asked the minister on objective of the project and not the objective of the PHE department.
Then answering the question on behalf of the minister, Sunn who is the former PHE Chief Engineer said the objective of the project was to reduce unaccounted water.
Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh raised a concern on Pynthorumkhrah water shortage in which people get water twice a week to which Malniang pointed to a lot of problems on laying of pipeline.
