SHILLONG: The state government will launch the Megha Health Insurance Scheme in convergence with Ayushman Bharat on October 1.
Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said Ayushman Bharat “is for a special class of population” and MHIS is a universal scheme for all.
Ayushman Bharat, launched on Sunday, is a central scheme for the poor that has been deemed as the world’s largest government healthcare programme
The state will cover more than 8 lakh households and citizens can have insurance worth Rs 5 lakh. All citizens will be enrolled under the scheme, the minister informed.
“The government will have fresh enrolment for the scheme and enrolment this time will be easy as teams will visit houses,” Hek said.
The government is also in touch with traditional bodies to create awareness about the benefits of the scheme.
The Meghalaya government recently approved the fourth phase of the insurance scheme in convergence with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission or Ayushman Bharat.
The insurance cover of Rs 2.80 lakh under Phase III has been increased to Rs 5 lakh under Phase IV that includes medical investigations and tests that a patient requires.
