SHILLONG: Opposition Chief Whip P.T Sawkmie said on Monday the Legislative Assembly should be expanded by increasing the number of seats from 60 to 70 and Lok Sabha seats be enhanced to four from two.
Sawkmie moved a special motion to discuss the overall development in the state, the need to seek more financial assistance from the Centre and also to earmark a budget provision for the 11 districts in the state.
According to him, the enhancement of more seats will bring in overall development in the state.
As for the Lok Sabha seats, Sawkmie said there can be two Khasi-Jaintia seats and two seats in Garo Hills. He also expressed concern over Garo Hills suffering the scourge of insurgency in recent years.
