SHILLONG: BJP leader AL Hek on Tuesday admitted to the allegation of cash transaction that had shocked the BJP state executive committee members at a recent meeting.
Talking to The Shillong Times, Hek admitted that the incident happened as earlier reported in this daily when a candidate in the meeting alleged that one of the members sitting in the dais had taken money for issuing ticket for the Assembly elections.
“The truth must surface as persons who were not involved will be unnecessarily questioned by the people,” he said and maintained that allegations have to be substantiated with proofs.
Besides Hek, those who were present on the dais were BJP central leader in charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli, state BJP chief Shibun Lyngdoh, general secretary Banshailang Khongwir, other BJP functionaries David Kharsati, Earnest Mawrie and Sumita Banerjee.
Hek said depending on the finding, the party should take action against the individuals if there is any truth in the allegation.
The allegation was levelled by the BJP candidate of the February 27 Assembly polls at the meeting held on September 15 to analyse the results of the election. He accused certain party leaders of taking a few lakhs of rupees from him.
The meeting was chaired by Kohli.
During the second half of the meeting, the candidate repeated twice that a few persons sitting on the dais took certain amount of money from him and the money was paid in Pinewood Hotel.
